Early
Settlement in Canada
As mentioned earlier, they settled on Lot 6 of Concession 2 of Lancaster
Township in the County of Glengarry. It was originally listed
in the name of John Fisher, who gave them rent free for 10 years with
conditions. We still have the original document stipulating to these
details.
The Fisher name had a much older connection to the McVichies before
arriving in Canada. An ancestor Duncan McMihi/McVichie who was born
in approximately 1700 had a second wife Katherine McEwen. Records
indicate that she was previously married to a John Fisher, and had
3 sons with him, - named- Donald, John, and Alexander. It was probably
a descendant of these men that first had the property above. |
